Review Panel, 1995 & 1996 School Years
- Margie Atwater of Englewood, New Jersey, with daughter Ilana and son
Benjamin.
- Correna Bitgood-Hutchins, Indian Orchard, Massachusetts. Pre-school teacher
and grandmother of 3- and 4-year-olds. Thanks to daughters Meg and Kim
and grandchildren Amber Ingalls and Joshua Valez who borrowed the tapes
and did not want to give them back to grandmother.
- Jon Boucher family,
Wimbledon, England.
- Holly Caulfield, Lake Como Elementary School,
Orlando, Florida, reported calming effects on children with physical infirmities during their
innumerable transport rides, then she copied and distributed tapes for the families to take and
keep. Several teachers made take-home tapes under the limited copy license we
developed.
- Lynn Cohen and daughter Andrea, Warwick, Rhode Island.
- Rose Cole, New Zealand Childcare Association, Wellington, New
Zealand
- James & Karen Crowell family, Elemendorf Air Force Base, Alaska.
- Marion Davis, Garfield Community Magnet School, Kindergarten, Revere,
Massachusetts. She put in many hours to critique every poem, pointing out wording and meter
problems in the early manuscripts.
- Maureen E. Farr, Delaware Valley School District, Milford, Pennsylvania.
Kindergarten teacher, grandmother, Maureen provided many helpful reports and ideas for
additional teaching tools.
- Sherry Granberry, Wayne Community College, Goldsboro, North Carolina. Early
Childcare Education Coordinator, reported colleagues spontaneously came in to listen when
she played the tapes in her office, commenting on the peaceful effects.
- Jody Harvey, Denver, Colorado. Her report that her four-year-old loved the
tapes in the car and was reciting was the first response after testing across the country
began.
- Dr. Edward A. Mainzer, Child & Adolescent Psychiatist, Bellevue Hospital, New
York, New
York, provided detailed reports on
reactions of children in his counseling and school programs and gave much guidance toward
accomplishing our goal. His description of issues facing children in his care led to
Seven..., the "heaviest" of my books to date.
- Shirley Minster,
Home Education & Family Services, Gray, Maine.
- Dr. Sandra Smiling,
P.S. 11, Brooklyn, New York. Second-grade and college
teacher. Thanks to all at P.S. 11 who took part in testing. Sandra's report that "I played only one
tape to my hyperactive second graders and was astonished by the response" spurred us to
continue with the project. When she later reported the children were memorizing poems and
reciting them over the school intercom the project took on additional momentum. Then, Sandra
suggested subject matter for Seven that caused us to stop finishing production on
Bigger to write the third book.
My thanks and best wishes to you all!
